7th March -Thermal Imaging
Mar 7 2011 in Uncategorized by bere:architects
The front of the property showing very little insulation in the bay, particularly a very mysterious hot spot just above the window on the ground floor (we suspect this to be a heating pipe coming into close contact with the wall). It is easy to see the location of the radiator in the bay window at ground floor level.
This window is fully closed but because of defective seals there is significant heat loss around the top opening pane.
This image shows that prior to the retrofit work there was no insulation in the loft at Grove Rd. The roof joists are the hottest part of the ceiling as they are essentially the only insulation in the loft!

Nice, clear revealing images!
Do you have your own thermal imaging camera?
Best wishes,
Tim

Thank you for your comment. Yes we do have our own thermal imaging camera in the office. We have recently purchased a Testo thermal imaging camera which we have used to survey our Passfield Drive project. The Camera will no doubt be a very useful tool for accessing the thermal conditions of buildings pre-retrofit and post construction as it enables us to quickly and easily locate thermal bridges. The images it produces will also be a powerful graphic aid in communicating the need for well insulated buildings and high performance windows.

Great Work! Following your updates.
Do you happen to have any thermal imaging of a standard BISF house at all?
Regards
Marc

Thank you for your comment Marc. Unfortunately we do not have any thermal images of a BISF house. We are however aware that the construction of BISF houses leaves them prone to substantial heat losses through the building fabric. If you do come across thermal imaging of such buildings we would be very interested to see them.

Thank you for your reply.
I’m trying to track down several images that were taken by the BBC during the renovation of a BISF property.
If I manage to get hold of copies, I shall gladly forward a copy to you.
My regards & thanks
Marc
